“Breakfast in a ‘French-style’ bakery at the train station. The toast set includes a small salad of cabbage, lettuce, corn, tomato, and hard-boiled egg, topped with mayonnaise. But the toast is good–thick, like Texas Toast. Blueberry-grape juice makes for a surprisingly delicious combination. Tastes a bit like jam.

Ashtrays everywhere. Here, you can get a $20 ticket for smoking on the street (and Chad almost did, first thing yesterday morning), but you can smoke most anywhere, indoors. There are designated smoking areas in restaurants, even fast food joints.

Also everywhere: R&B music. Like right now, at the bakery, or yesterday at Mos Burger (where we ordered a tempura veggie burger with rice patties for buns). Except that I don’t recognize any of the songs. It’s like Japan has some never-ending reserve of obscure, 90s R&B jams. Reminds me of Perry.”

More to come, Friends. Always more to come.

I used to write all sorts of things–poetry, prose, vignettes, fiction. Nowadays I mostly do this, plus a letter here and there, and then my journal. When I’m feeling good to myself, or when I’m feeling alone.

Was it naivete? Or just one of the many pieces of myself that I let fall by the wayside?

Lately, I’ve been picking up the pieces. Saturday night, in my delirium, I wrote something that rhymes.

Guess What?

~OR~

Busy, Busy, Busy!!!

Guess what, Friends?

I love chia! Who knew, right?

I could drink it probably forever; it is just that texturally pleasing.

Guess what else, Friends?!

I am working harder than ever! Blogging for my Garden City committee and for GNZAP and doing outreach at 7am with Bonnie (pictured above, sunny as always), Rachel (not pictured), and Dees (pictured NOW):

Guess what’s more, Friends?!?!

I’m going to South America on Friday. For 3 1/2 weeks.

Yup. Busy, busy, busy.

Days Come, Days Go

Last night:

Kava tea, Mad Men reruns, nail painting and lists

Then this morning:

Home-made breakfast of oatmeal ‘n’ apples

Plus letter writing, a bike ride, and yoga

Oh, and a brief visit with Marmy. All before work at 2pm. Not bad, though I think I may have overdone it for my first day of feeling better.

Now I’m drinking bubble tea, and tonight I will go to bed early. End of transmission.
