Preserves

Just another Sunday, running errands, visiting family. Coping with life the best I know how.

A Summer’s Work

Sometimes you trick the system and wind up on a committee with money designated for nothing more than gardening and community building. So you toil away all summer and then throw a party, knowing full-well that the vast majority of your coworkers do not give a single shit, and you could care less, because it is Sunday and you get to hang out in the world’s coolest backyard, eating salsa and drinking beer and savoring the dregs of summer.

Wasalaza

Sometimes a thing is so funny to me that once it starts being funny it doesn’t stop being funny. For life.

Like when Robby described his AA meetings as “a bunch of people sitting around smoking like animals.”

Or that New Year’s in Spain where I took a hanger out of the hall closet and hung my coat up in the bathroom.

Or there was this one time, with a bowl of cereal…actually I have never successfully told the cereal story without laughing myself to tears. It is just that funny to me, and usually not at all funny to anyone else.

Uneasy

I have that ol’ Sunday feeling again. Do you know the one? I thought it was something universal, but walking and talking with Espy and she couldn’t relate. I tried to explain it to her, a few ways, finally settling on:

“It’s like I feel there’s something I should be doing, but I don’t know what.”

Part anxiety, part restlessness, part heartache, part blues…it’s a feeling I used to have often, predictably, in high school and college. But I haven’t felt this in a while, and I’ve forgotten what to do about it, if I ever knew.

Do you know the feeling I am talking about?

How I am Spending My Sunday (at work)

Catching up on friends’ blogs, like:

emilyrobin

…which led me to:

TILDA STARDUST (“dedicated to the belief that Tilda and Bowie are one person”)

and ponytail (equal parts pleasing and disturbing to look at)

and of course My Parents Were Awesome (I already know exactly which photos I would submit to this)

Emily has another blog, which is equally worth perusing, though for different reasons. Mostly reasons involving WHY CAN’T I LIVE MY LIFE WITH A SENSE OF GRACE AND WONDER LIKE OTHERS?!?! -type stuff.

Do I love Way Ginger’s tumblr because she’s my friend, or is she my friend because she’s the type of gal to have such an awesome tumblr? It’s a Sunday conundrum, Friends. A sunundrum, if you will.

I also like this gal, and her spirit. And her craftiness. And her baked goods.

Also, if you’re my boss reading this, then I just want to say that I totally also work super hard, like, ALL the time and work, totally signing so many kids up for summer reading and handing out mad headphones great work ethic etc.

HAPPY SUNDAY!!! Tonight is the Mad Men season finale! I’m going to drink beer and eat french fries WOOT!
